Tokyo City Cup

Santa Anita Park, the most revered and honored among U.S. racetracks, and Ohi Racecourse, one of the leading racetracks in Japan, has held a partnership since August 1995. Every March, the Tokyo City Cup race is held at Santa Anita Park and attended by Ohi Racecourse executives. Every July, the Santa Anita Trophy Race (G3) is held at Ohi Racecourse. The race is the highlight of a week long celebration they call Santa Anita Week, and in previous years Santa Anita Park executives have been present to award trophies.
In celebration of the Tokyo City Cup, the Soma Nomaoi samurai warriors dressed in traditional armor have performed on the main track in front of the grandstand, accompanied by “Wadaiko”, traditional Japanese drums the previous two years. Also, Japanese cultural exhibitions and activities such as Martial Arts demonstrations, Origami Art (ancient Japanese paper craft), Okoto (traditional Japanese string instrument) performances, Japanese tea ceremony, and a Kimono fashion show were held at the park throughout the day of events.
In the past, The Japanese Consul General of Los Angeles and other Ohi Racecourse executives have participated in the events at the racetrack.
